Sydney

Purrfect Match received a desperate message from a teacher at Compass Community School in the Frayser area of Memphis. This tiny ginger & white kitten was limping around their parking lot, with one front leg horribly bent in the wrong direction. We didn't have anyone available right then to run out there, so we contacted Northgate Animal Hospital which is right nearby. Dr Gullett was awesome enough to allow two of her employees to head to the school and after a bit of nail-biting chase, they were able to get "Sydney" (named after the teacher who contacted us about her) into a carrier and back to the clinic for evaluation!

Sydney had radial nerve damage and the injury was not recent, so there was no chance of saving the leg. It's heartbreaking to think of her struggling to survive outside alone with that injury. The area was also dirty and infected, so this little girl definitely got help in the nick of time! Once she'd had everything done at the vet clinic that she needed immediately, our wonderful foster mom Lisa took Sydney home to help her get as strong and healthy as possible before the amputation surgery.

It was a worry-filled few weeks as tiny Sydney underwent amputation surgery (Dr Gullett recommended that it be done promptly due to the bone infection) and then learned how to navigate life on three legs. But her resilience has been nothing short of extraordinary!

And the best part of the story is Sydney’s happy ever after, because a friend and previous adopter of Purrfect Match, not only covered all of Sydney’s medical expenses, but also adopted this precious girl! Now all of the challenges are behind her, as Sydney revels in life as cherished princess among Bridget’s beloved cats. Bridget says that Sydney is always smiling and purring, blissfully unaware that she is any different from her kitty friends.

As we reflect on the tough circumstances from which this kitten was rescued and witness the incredible life she enjoys now, our hearts are full to explosion level!
