Destiny Found: Smudge’s Journey

Sometimes, we think we are the ones saving them... but it turns out, they are the ones saving us.

Smudge’s journey began as an unwanted, homeless kitty at Flag City Trailer Park in Millington. His stars began to align the day a caring person picked him up and contacted Purrfect Match. Under the dedicated care of his foster mom, Janet, Smudge transformed from a struggling stray into a healthy, happy, and incredibly sweet boy.

A Mission and a Destiny

When Smudge left MeowHouse to head north to our adoption partners at Ten Lives Cat Rescue in Rhode Island, we knew he was a special soul—but we had no idea he had a literal destiny to fulfill.

Just two days after Smudge was adopted by his wonderful new mom, Danielle, tragedy struck. Danielle’s father passed away, leaving her family devastated. At a time when Smudge was still shy and hadn't even ventured to the downstairs level of his new home, something incredible happened.

He didn't wait to get comfortable. He sensed he was needed.

Smudge immediately stepped in as a caregiver, following Danielle wherever she went and remaining glued to her side. Danielle feels strongly that Smudge was the cat her family was meant to have—and that they found each other exactly when they were supposed to.

Life as "Smudgey Doobles"

Six weeks later, Smudge (now affectionately known as Smudgey Biscuits, Smudgeroo, and Smudgey Doobles!) is thriving. Danielle shared this heartwarming update:

"Six weeks in and this overly lovable boy’s favorite things are meowing at 4am until someone plays with him, sneaking into the closet for his treats, and curling up right next to one of us shrimp-style on a nightly basis. He was exactly what this family needed."
