Who We Are
Purrfect Match is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cat rescue organization based in Millington, Tennessee, home to NSA Mid-South Naval Base.
We rescue cats and kittens from overcrowded shelters, as well as stray, abandoned, and community cats. As shelters have implemented managed intake policies, more cats are being left without access to the resources and care they need. We’ve risen to the challenge by providing veterinary care, housing, and socialization until each cat is ready for adoption.
While we facilitate some local adoptions, many of our cats and kittens are transported to trusted rescue partners across the country to find their forever homes.
Purrfect Match operates entirely on donations, and your generosity makes it possible for us to save more precious feline lives.
Our Story
West Tennessee is a rural region with a critical overpopulation of cats and kittens, while many local shelters are understaffed and underfunded. Overcrowding can leave shelters with heartbreaking choices, including the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.
For our first ten years, Purrfect Match focused primarily on local cat adoptions. But as we saw the growing need in our region, we realized we could make an even greater impact by becoming a way station of healing for homeless cats. Our Volunteer Executive Director, Jill Spencer, began researching cat rescue organizations in areas with better-managed cat populations and more resources for cats in need.
That research led to lasting partnerships with organizations in New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island. In 2015, Purrfect Match began transporting cats to New England—and we have now rescued and transported nearly 6,500 cats!
Today, our dedicated volunteers work alongside USDA-approved animal transporters to safely transport 250–300 cats to New England each year, where they have a better chance of finding loving forever homes.
Our Organization
Purrfect Match is governed by a five-member volunteer board of directors. All board members are donors as well as ambassadors for Purrfect Match. Two board members are CPA’s (one inactive), guaranteeing strong financial responsibility for all contributions. Purrfect Match is an institutional member of the Association of Animal Welfare Advancement and follows its best-practice guidance and recommendations.
Milestones
In 2013, we expanded our rescue efforts when we secured an 800 sq. ft space in Millington, TN. We were thrilled to help area shelters save more felines!
In 2022, we occupied a new facility in the heart of Millington, TN. It has 2,500 sq. ft., over three times the size of our former location. With this expansion, Purrfect Match continues to be volunteer-powered but now can house up to 50 cats at our facility (up from around 30 at our former location).
In 2024, Purrfect Match transported its 5,000th cat to our New England partners! We are now rescuing 500 cats/kittens per year because of strong donor contributions.
This is MeowHouse in Millington, TN, home to our rescued felines. Along with our foster homes, we care for 120+ cats on any given day!
