Fred

Fred was a stray cat in Memphis and years of neglect took a toll. When a caring woman noticed him in her neighborhood, he was extremely and seriously ill with upper respiratory infection that bordered on pneumonia. She went above and beyond for this homeless cat, paying for him to be hospitalized and treated at a vet clinic. Once he was recovering well and the bill was getting to be more than she could handle, she reached out in desperation to find a rescue to take Fred, since she was unable to adopt him personally. With him being a shyer adult and rescue opportunities scarce anyway, this was not an easy task, but Purrfect Match heard about Fred and his guardian angel and we wanted to help both of them. We were very happy to welcome this gentle boy to MeowHouse!

With dedicated care and patience from our volunteers, Fred gradually overcame his initial shyness, becoming comfortable and more confident. Before long, he blossomed into a gentle and affectionate companion, and we knew he was ready for adoption!

We all celebrated when Fred got an opportunity to transport to Ten Lives Cat Rescue in RI for adoption. As a foster-based rescue, we felt this would provide the ideal environment for Fred to adjust to new surroundings and position him perfectly to find the right home.

And we’re thrilled to announce that Fred did indeed find a fabulous home! He is now “Marvy” and his new parents say that he already responds to the name, trotting over when they call him, which they find totally adorable. Who wouldn't?

They absolutely adore his sweet and laid-back nature, and from the cozy lap picture they sent, it’s clear that Fred is extremely happy and content in his new environment. What a wonderful and well-deserved happy ending for this guy who faced such challenges before rescue.

It’s such a special feeling when one of our shyer adult cats gets his chance to shine!
