Tim & Gertie
Two Millington police officers stopped by MeowHouse in August 2022 after they'd responded to a call at a nearby motel that is basically a drug flop. Someone had moved out and left two cats behind in the sad, dirty, cluttered room. The officers had gone to several vet clinics in Millington trying to find help for the cats (there is no stray animal holding facility whatsoever in Millington) but no one could or would help, so they came to us in desperation. Thankfully we had a spot available, so "Tim" (the black cat who is named after one of the officers) and "Gertie" became Purrfect Match cats!
We initially housed Tim and Gertie together at the rescue, but once they had decompressed a bit we began to see that Tim's exuberant personality was too much for Gertie and he tended to bully her. They were much happier separated and Tim entertained the Purrfect Match volunteers daily with his hi-jinx and houdini routine. No matter how we secured it, he would somehow manage to open his own kennel, so we finally gave up and just left the kennel door open. He would run around causing trouble until it was time for a nap, at which point he would jump back into his kennel to rest! This big goofball was so people-oriented we knew he needed a new family soon, so when he had the opportunity to head up to HART of Maine in November, we jumped on it. It's always bittersweet when kitties like Tim who make such a big impression on our hearts leave us, but we knew he would find an amazing home up there and we were not surprised when the HART adoption coordinator told us she could have adopted Tim out ten times over! He had multiple people wanting him but within a couple of weeks after his arrival in Maine, he was home for good with the lucky humans chosen to adopt him.
Our sweet Gertie headed up to foster-based Ten Lives Cat Rescue in Rhode Island in January 2023 and was thrilled to settle in to a foster home with no other pets. The couple fostering her said that she loves all of the attention and wants to explore everything! She made herself at home in no time and stole their hearts - so much so that they officially adopted her so she is a foster win!
We are so relieved that these two cats now have stable, loving homes in which to enjoy the rest of their lives. They are both fabulous cats and thanks to MeowHouse, we were able to provide them safe harbor when they needed it most!
